Pardon the Gollum / Smeagol impression, but I simply must say... a 3072k/s downstream rate is truly something to behold. I've finally ditched the phone line and gone highspeed. Now that I'm on broadband, I'm gaming every night... but something's missing. I want to try something good and online only, even an MMORPG. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I would recommend Planetside, if you don't mind having to pay a monthly fee of $12. You can get a free 7-day trial at www.planetside.com It isnt really an RPG, more like a giant FPS's war, but u do choose what weapons, veichles and armour your charector can wear etc.

Also NWN is gr8 to play as a MMORPG if u use persistant world mods. www.exaria.net is a good one.

Next year I'm living in my university again, back to sharing a 655 MBit connection Laughing
I once downloaded 1.5 GB in an hour on that connection!

The fastest I've ever been was with @Home when they first came out in our area..

I got upto 860kilobytes per second, and that was at the end of the file... had the file been larger than 15 megs, it would've gone up more Wink

It was rare to find a server that would dish that much out though...

That would've been roughly 3 gigs in an hour. Alas, I have Comcast now, which I rarely see over 200k/sec :/

if you have cable, youd be greatly surprised about how a good computer vs a bad one sharing the same connection has an extremely faster speed. my dads laptop speed on the same site tested is twice as fast as the results i posted. heh. and yes his laptop is much faster than my pc in everything except for the vid card, his lap. has a gig of ram (for websphere)

he gets about 870. I just tested how fast i downloaded a 5 meg .bmp file from my host, 220 kbps...not bad

Why have you said a dual speed ISDN is "bareable" and that a half megabit is "bareable" too??! Razz

3mbit / 384kbps here, on Adelphia.

And as far as an online game, check out Gunbound Wink I've been playing it almost non-stop during my freetime lately, and it's completely addicting.

http://www.gunbound.net/

And if you want, you can add me to your buddies, and gee, guess the name I used Razz
