Sorry I haven't posted in a while... :-\ I've been busy with work and clan stuff (and I'm sure a lot've you just don't care/remember me anyways... Laughing )

But I have a question to ask you guys...do you think it'd be worth it to overclock my current system?? I've been hearing a lot that it'd only make my computer more unstable if I did, but I just wanna get a few more opinions before I make my final choice.

current specs:

Intel P4 1.6 GHz processor
256 MB of RAM (Upgrading to 512 soon)
Radeon 9200SE graphics card
(non-important crap)
40 gig Maxtor hard drive
ASUS motherboard (Dell brand Question Confused )
350 Watt PSU

After upgrading RAM, I want to upgrade either the motherboard or Processor, I'm unsure as to which one yet...it wouldn't be worth it to upgrade my 1.6 to 2.0 GHz, if I did anything I'd get 2.8 w/Hyper Threading. I was just wondering if in the long run, overclocking would help my system out a little so I can get better frames in game. Just curious...thanks for reading.

Depending on how good your cooling is, you could probably get a bit of a jump on your system. It's pretty easy to get a 1.6 to 2.0Ghz, though your video card might still be a drawback.

One question that begs asking though, how stable is your system right now? If it's solid, I'd say go for it, if not, I'd say don't bother Wink Course, that's just my little $0.02. It's not as though if you fry your processor they're very expensive to replace Razz

LoL! See...my system's a Dell running XP. Confused It's...stable as they come. It's slow due to the lack of RAM and whatnot, but I'm not exactly how you define "stable" lol

I know, that's what sparked my questions. lol My ATI ran on my friend's system, and ran UT2k3/2k4 great with a 3.0 GHz p4 and a gig of RAM lol But I don't have that, and I've heard the 9200 series aren't very well-suited for high stress. x_x

Before you overclock I have a question. What is the size of your GPU heatsink?

Tycho, I'm fairly knowledgeable with computers, but I don't know how to find out what you just asked me. Confused

And Raven - the 9200 is an okay card, but if you want a card that takes full advantage of DirectX features, go with a 9600 or above. :\ And it's fairly reliable...it'd be okay if I had a fairly decent system. My hard drive's a crapper and my RAM is insufficient. But I still play 2k4 at fairly good FPS's... Just not as well as others and with some good tweakage.
