http://www.php.net/

All the resources you'll ever need.

Course, if you're looking for some "examples" to learn by, I'd recommend the following 2 sites as well:

http://php.resourceindex.com/ - They've got functions, tutorials, scripts, etc.

http://www.hotscripts.com/ - Again, same type of collection, only typically a tad larger.

Also, what type of thing are you going to try to do with PHP? Looking for something simple (ie: html wrappers or something?) or are you looking at writing your own postnuke (for the love of god why? Razz )

rumour.

Don't believe it Razz

For all intensive purposes, all they're doing is making PHP5 more powerful in the classes department, and by doing so, allowing for better memory management and protection.

They're new object model allows for better encapsulation of your objects if you so choose to use objects on your website, but the primary focus of PHP5 is not to change the format to be more "java like", infact, quite the opposite.

For more information, please visit the official website for the new Zend Engine 2 here: http://www.php.net/zend-engine-2.php

Oh, and while I'm at it..... java sucks Razz

I pretty much learned everything from PHP.net, which is partly why I like it so much.

Java doesn't SUCK. It's just old and overrated. It's easy to learn and use, and for writing basic online apps or some other small scripts, it does the job, which is what matters.

AMEN to VB being sucky. I use VB6 once in a blue moon, and I'm teaching high schoolers how to use it, and man, I hate it.

Personally, I'm akin to C++, because it was my first Object Oriented language, and I still find it to be quite powerful. And, for floating point operations on a Cray X1, C is what you need to know. I could go into that, but man, writing C, or any other language, in an old Unix or DOS proprietary compiler is a &*#($. Get CodeWarrior. It pwnz.
