Actually... IE works fine... but, I'll tell you, I was on your side of this argument a few months ago. I tried Firebird, just so that the people I was arguing against couldn't say I hadn't even given it a chance.
Well, I gave it a chance, and haven't gone back since.
Firebird's tabbed browsing just kicks ass... it takes up less memory, for those who like to download and game at the same time - you get to save some FPSs using any Mozilla product... and last, but not least, the integrated pop-up blocker is a friggin' god-send.
I use IE from time to time because of one or two weird JS bugs that Mozilla has, and because Mozilla doesn't properly integrate GetRight... but other than that, I'd highly recommend it.

Conflicts? nah, you can have as many browsers on your system as you'd like with no conflicts between themselves. Why? because all other browsers stay to their own little part of your hard drive, unlike IE which spreads itself to encompass all of windows *grumble*.

And I never said it'd be "faster", it's just more standardized, and it's the SAME speed as IE Wink

The extra features, like DragonRage pointed out are really the selling point. Plus the idea that you can add extentions which add functionality to it and "theme" it for a custom look very easily, make it a hot contender for any other browser out there. Yeah, sure, there are a couple sites out there that won't load in Mozilla or Firebird, but I attribute those mostly to poor website design rather than a bug in the browser (though yes, I've submitted some patches to help fix some bugs in the java script section, so I know they're out there).

*shrug* It can't really hurt to give it a try now can it? Wait til 0.8 is released (trust me, you'll know, I'll post about it here Razz ) and then give it a shot. Reason for waiting? 0.8 is absolutely awesome, and it comes with an installer which should make your life a lot easier.

You never know, you might like it, and never look back.

Well, may I interfere? Smile
IE sucks... Back a few years ago, I switched mainly because IE was Microsoft, and we all know that is a bad thing ^_^
But now... with all those eMail viruses about, I'm glad I use Mozilla mail, and I'll gladly state the advantages it has over outlook:
- integrated junk mail filter
- secure handling of potentially dangerous attachments
plus many viruses are targeting outlook's security holes especially, so you're more secure with a less widely used product.

For me, Mozilla's (or Opera's, but mozilla is better) most important advantage over IE is the integration of "tabbed browsing"... you try it once, you'll love it. Just middle-click on any link to open it in a new tab... use ctrl+tab to switch between them, ctrl+f4 to close them and ctrl+t to open a new one. you can also configure mozilla to open tabs in the background, i.e. load them behind your currently opened page... so while you read something you click on the links, they load in the background and when you've finished reading the pages have already finished loading Smile

The other important advantage is that stupid forms of "right-click-protection" don't work in mozilla. also all those dodgy scripts you get sometimes... and the popup blocker is really handy too. Smile

Well, just try it, that's what I did. Download opera and mozilla and get your own impression Smile
