Computer Problem

hey all.
iv just got 3DMark03 couse i wanted to see what score i could get with this system, turns out the PC shuts down at CPU Test 1. its the one with the airplanes.
all the other stuff seems to work, exept that.. and i got no clue why.
i screwed my PC open and found alot of dust, sucked that out. and it still shut down on me.
so i felt if it was hot, not realy, the CPU (as far as i could get to it, the cooller etc) was more cold then hot, just room temp i guess. the grapics card was warm, and the hard drive to. furthermore nothing special i could notice.
i would be realy happy if somebody knows whats wrong.. couse my system should own the benchmark i think.

Pentium 4, 3 GHZ
1 gig of ram
FX 5950 256 MB
200 gig ATA hard drive
latest nvidia drivers
no OC or anything

Nice. Check your drivers and Aa settings and whatnot.

Be warned that 3DMarks2003 is designed for new and future graphics technology. If your card is a bit old, then the benchmark software may not function properly.

I believe 3Dmarks recommends 2001 for certain cards and older.

There's numerous other settings that could be attributed to the malfunction, but I'd start with drivers. Also, there are many software packages out there that can tell you your system temps right from windows. Might be more reliable than "feeling" the heatsinks.

I had a graphics card once that had 4 tiny drops of thermal paste on the heatsink. If you tilted the card up to the light, you could actually see between the GPU and Heatsink. not good.

so i wouldent call that an old card, and i have latest nvidia drivers.
even when i put all settings down, screen reso, AA, AF, everythign.. the other test do great, well i get like 10-15 FPS at some stuff, dunno why that is, but like 150+ at other. so its just grapecly intense when i drop to 15 FPS.
but i can play heavy games for 10 hours in a row and the PC is cooller then the room im in..

yes, its a trial.. have to register it after a few days, so thats why i want to get this sorted out fast, else i cant use the prog anymore.

try looking up the benchmark tests on your video card for 3DMark 03.

google it.. id help but i'm at work atm..... and i'm supposto be working Wink

these are older driver tests... you might wanna rollback your driver (dl older ones to see if it helps...) but i dunno if this is going to help at all..

thanks anyway, but i dident understood what you ment with theh first post, and the second i dont know what to do with the link, exept for clicking it.

ps. why does my grapic card not look like the one on the pic, with the nice plastic heath disposers and everything, mine just looks dull and coper.

those are show cards. would cost a ton to make all the cards look cool like that. i have found also if you get one direct from the manufactur it looks alot diffrent. My old 4200 looked like any old card but when i got it replaced on warrenty i got a semi cooler card.

but why does it, on weh webpage, say that the card looks cool, and has nice plastic shit on it etc, when it doesnt realy has that on when you buy it.. thats lame...
