| Well it looks as though UT2004 has dodged its first bullet.  Voodoo Extreme is reporting that Doom 3 has been delayed until 2004.  This is definitely better news for UT2004 as that is one less big name game they have to worry about.

Agreed, I havn't seen anything pointing in that direction, and with the engine mostly done, I don't see any reason for a major delay of UT2k4. If you think of it as the following, it makes sense:

UT2003: Major Release of New Engine
 FIX: Polish the Engine
ADDON: Bonus packs & Patches add new features
UT2004: Take now polished engine, add new features, polish, release.

If we were back in the days of version numbers, UT2k4 (from everything I've heard and understood) would be in those days labeled UT2k3 v1.5. Those "point releases" are hailed by the programming and user community for their stability, and ability to be released on time. So they've kindof earned a soft spot in my heart, as something that will be very good. Thinking about UT2k4 in this manner has made it very easy for me to believe that this will be a success.

| Eh, Doom3 was never really major competition. A very different animal.

Unreal One's competition was Half Life. Unreal looked like a promising Mod base, but HL came along and stole the best teams away. The victim of a buggy initial release, and a really cool game in HL.

UT fought Quake 3, and fought well.

Ut2K3 got hit the most by BF1942, I think, which frankly had more original online gameplay, which the new UT is going to try and emulate to a degree.

Of course Half Life 2 will be UT2K4's death. Everyone will start modding for it and playing it online.

| that is already becoming the point

the modlist that i created has had to have cutbacks of about 5-10 mods because of the HL2 compitition.

Iīm sure that Half Life 2 is going to be a hell of a game and Iīll probably going to buy it but to be this amazing next gen game and not having the FSAA working as it should, isnīt that kind of a dissapointment?
Games of today can do it but not this new "great game" !?
It isnīt supposed to come in at least 2 months (sep 30 if Iīm noy mistaken) and Valve has already said that they have this FSAA bug/problem that canīt be taken care of unless you have the Radeon 9500-9800 they might solve it.
I wonder what we will hear next time ?

| Of course Anti-Aliasing issues only matter to a small percentage of players. Most of us will have it Off, because we just don't have to grunt ot make it worthwhile.

And to be honest, AA doesn't make THAT much of a difference in the heat of a game.

| Maybe Doom3 is attempting to dodge the "ut2k4 bullet"
I mean, it's the one moving out of the way, isn't it?

 hehe. But really.
This whole competition thing assumes that players will only buy one game.
I'm buying all 4 of the big games coming out (UT2k4, HL2, STALKER, Doom3).

They all bring something different to the table. You are not going to buy Doom3 if you want a kickass MP game, are you?
There are all kinds of players out there, and games to fit thier craving (or multiple cravings).

I don't think I've checked out that Crome game though.
 Gonna look for it now....
